SENER's FORAN System Used for Saudi Arabian Corvettes24/09/2020 (Spain)
July 22 saw the launch at the San Fernando shipyard of the first of five corvettes that NAVANTIA is building for the Royal Saudi Navy.
This program marks a major milestone, since all the design and construction engineering was successfully completed despite the tight deadlines and having a vessel with a cutting-edge design that is outfitted with the latest technology for a vessel of its class. One of the factors that most effectively contributed to this program was the use of the FORAN design tool developed by SENER Marine.
The Naval FORAN CAD System was used to completely design the corvettes during the basic and detailed engineering phases, from the initial naval architecture calculations to the generation of information for the different workshops and construction tasks. The software made it possible to manage NAVANTIA's work processes on the Windchill® platform, with contained the entire structural design model, the vessel's various systems, as well as its electrical, communications and combat systems. NAVANTIA specialists used the FORAN software to produce a complete digital Mock-up with an accurate 3D model that provides a true reflection of the final vessels.
The FORAN System is a Spanish software suite developed by SENER and used internationally in the most demanding military programs, including those for the Royal Australian Navy's new Hunter class frigates, the T26 frigates and nuclear powered submarines of Dreadnought class for the Royal Navy. FORAN is a highly specialized CAD tool for designing surface ships and submarines that is constantly evolving and incorporating innovative features for the Digital Transformation of the naval industry.
