First trip of the Rio Yavarí PIAS
07/09/2021 (Spain)The Rio Yavarí Traveling Platform for Sustainable Social Action (PIAS in Spanish) has completed its first operational mission from the Peruvian Navy's Iquitos Naval Base, providing medical and social services to improve the quality of life of native communities.
The SENER engineering and technology group was commissioned by the SIMA shipyard and the Peruvian Navy to design the ship and solve the technological challenge posed by the low draft that these vessels must have in order to sail to the most remote sites in the Peruvian Amazon.
Built in the shipyards of SIMA Peru, located in Iquitos, the PIAS Río Yavarí is a river boat designed to provide medical and social services to the people in the rural area of Loreto region. It is 48 m length, 10 m breadth, and has a design draft of 0.82 m, with a speed of 9 knots and a maximum crew of 43.
The scope of the project included all the ship's naval architecture and stability calculations, its structural plans, PI& diagrams, safety and firefighting, as well as basic electrical engineering, which were carried out by SENER's technical team in constant communication with the SIMA shipyard, and relied on specific modules of the FORAN System, developed by the company itself.
The vessel was designed in keeping with Bureau Veritas regulations and with safety rules of the General Directorate of Maritime Authorities and Coast Guard (DICEE) for ships and vessels designed for inland navigation, as well as with the IMO stability standards for steel fluvial vessels.
Over its 60+ year history in naval engineering, SENER has accumulated extensive experience in designing all types of vessels, and our FORAN solution is used for the entire design process. FORAN is a naval design and production system developed by SENER that is currently in use in over 150 shipbuilders and engineering firms.
