SENER closes its tenth FORUM with successful participation
Madrid, Spain, October 5, 2018 - The engineering and technology group SENER has closed its tenth FORUM (the FORAN Users meeting), conceived as a technological exchange where FORAN users from around the world can share their experience and concerns, while also making suggestions for new functionalities. This event, which is held every other year in an emblematic Spanish location, took place this year in the Parador de Alcalá in Henares from October 3rd to October 5th.
Over one hundred participants were able to find out first-hand about the new functionalities available in the latest version of FORAN (whose market launch is scheduled for late October), on the developments currently underway, and on the medium- and long-term strategy. This year’s forum also gave participants the opportunity to attend live virtual reality sessions organized in small groups.
On a technical level, there were two live demonstrations on some the new functionalities in the upcoming version of FORAN. In addition to this, the latest developments in virtual reality and artificial intelligence technologies were also unveiled as part of the Shipyard 4.0 strategy, which involves the development of FORAN. Lastly, as usual, SENER announced its upcoming strategy for FORAN development, together with its quality assurance and customer service plan.
The participatory panels discussed how to use FORAN in the latest technologies and how to apply it to Shipyard 4.0, in addition to exploring the system’s ability to connect to other applications and FORAN’s specific application for handling twin vessels.
Once again, a vote was held in the FORUM on the winners for the 6th FORAN photography and screenshot contest, with the prizes awarded during the formal dinner. This time the winners were the Spanish shipbuilder Zamakona (first prize in FORAN photography) and the Korean company Kangnam (first prize in FORAN screenshots).
The General Manager of SENER Marine, Rafael de Góngora, who opened and closed the FORUM, thanked those in attendance and gave a positive assessment of both the technical seminars and the various cultural activities that were part of the FORUM.
The President of SENER, Jorge Sendagorta, has been awarded the Honorary Member's medal, which is granted by the Spanish Institute of Engineering (Instituto de Ingeniería de España, IIE). This institution decided to give the distinction to Jorge Sendagorta after he was nominated by the Spanish Association of Naval and Ocean Engineers, in recognition of his professional career. According to the institution: “It's a prize to the engineer, but undoubtedly also to the engineering carried out at SENER, which is spearheading Spanish engineering around the world and in the most innovative sectors."[+]
